Let’s talk a little bit about the First Amendment, specifically regarding freedom of speech. Freedom of speech definitely has its pros and its cons. It allows one to express their feelings, hold people in authority accountable, advocate for change, create various movements, and ultimately, it reflects our liberty as human beings. We use our freedom of speech when participating in protests, we use it in the political realm, and so much more. Although, some individuals do abuse this right. There are different hate groups which have taken advantage of this right and have used it for negative purposes and the wrong reasons.

Depending on what your job is, what deal you’ve signed, what brand you’re representing, there are some restrictions/limitations in regards to freedom of speech or anything under the first amendment. I completely agree with it. If you’re the ambassador of a certain brand or you pay for the NFL and they tell you you can’t use vulgar language on social media or anytime the press is around, then abide by it. You’re already making millions of dollars, I know for me, I wouldn’t be complaining.

Now, although I agree with certain restrictions, I don’t believe in censorship. Once these limitations come in between what you stand for, your platform, or just simply your values, then conversations should be had. However, sometimes we may have to bite our tongue and ask ourselves if it’s even worth it.

Presidential wise, I don’t agree with him being able to ban certain words or phrases to government workers just because he thinks they’re offensive or he simply doesn’t like them. That’s not just authority, but traits of a dictatorship that is unacceptable in every way, shape, and form. The first amendment are not just rights, but their testaments to history’s perseverance, determination, and mindset to never stop fighting.
